The first of five discussions chaired by Kim Hill on big data is being held this Thursday night (Feb 14), timed to coincide with the National Library’s major reopening exhibition entitled “Big Data: Changing Place”, which will run until April. Kim will be joined by a panel of experts who will explore the nature and implications of big data and how it my serve as a tool in facing the challenges of the current era.

The first discussion, ‘From space to place: recovering the personal’, will see experts Kevin Sweeny, formerly New Zealand Geospatial Custodian, Bill Macnaught, National Librarian, and Stephen McDougall, from Studio Pacific Architecture, discuss the concept of ‘place’.

Each discussion will be held at the Royal Society of New Zealand Lecture Threatre (11 Turnbull Street, Thorndon, Wellington) at 6pm, and will be recorded for broadcast on Radio New Zealand National. Tickets are available to the public for $10 via the Royal Society of New Zealand website – please be seated by 5.55pm as latecomers will not be admitted.
