Today we can announce the publication of a Draft Constitution for New Zealand fit for the 21st Century – produced by 50 talented young people at at Parliament on 28 and 29 August at the EmpowerNZ: Drafting a Constitution for the 21st Century workshop.
The document, which should be read alongside the addendum, is available for download as a PDF, you can purchase a hard copy on our online store, or you can view the interactive web version built by Christian Silver, one of the EmpowerNZ participants, at www.empowernzconstitution.org. Christian has certainly more than fulfilled his 10 ‘pay it forward’ hours!
We would like to reiterate our appreciation to all those involved in crafting this document. It was an intense two days and the product is incredible.

How can 50 young people – randomly selected, and brought together by a private company – claim to be either representative or qualified to draft a countries constitution?
The steps required to draft a national constitution are complex. They are quite unsuitable for a group of unelected, unqualified, and unrepresentative youngsters.
This effort may be educational and uplifting for those involved, but is inherently worthless and irrelevant to the country.
